A good site-wide search function is powerful – it can help visitors quickly navigate through a lot of information and determine if a site is useful to them. Search functions are also really complicated to develop – there is a reason Google is so popular! The TCAPP team has been busy working on a new site-wide search. We used a very popular open-source search engine (called Solr) and customized it to fit the needs of typical TCAPP searching.
The new search addresses limitations of the old version and adds to user-experience. Results can be filtered by site location. Synonyms are automatically included. Critical information is boosted in results. Search-terms are highlighted on selected pages. Try out search and tell us what you think in TCAPP's forums at http://transportationforcommunities.com/shrpc01/forums!

TRB has plans for additional pilot tests to help improve TCAPP. A new Request for Proposals (RFP) will be released in July with proposals due in late August under the SHRP 2 Capacity Program. The project number will be C39A, with total funding of $1 million to support up to five project teams. If you are considering a way in which TCAPP can help your plan or project, you might want to check out how Washington State DOT used TCAPP to support the SR 509 Corridor Completion Project. Please share your thoughts now: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TCAPP_user_survey
What the survey is about: SHRP2 is preparing to formally roll out the TCAPP site, and your answers to this survey will help gather advice on how to best share the site with transportation professionals most likely to use TCAPP, including planners, project development engineers, environmental specialists and public involvement professionals. If you have any friends or colleagues that would be willing to provide input, please forward the survey to them.
What TCAPP is about: If you are new to the TCAPP website, it's a one-stop-shop for the planning process – it outlines the key steps in the planning process, includes information on who should be involved in each step, has case study and best practice information and many other helpful features.

At the May TRB Conference "Making Progress: Transportation Planners and Programmers Turn Ideas into Reality", held in Denver, TCAPP was featured in a 4-hour, hands-on workshop. The goal was to introduce the audience to TCAPP using the challenges that they face. In small groups the audience took specific real-life problems and used TCAPP to identify strategies and supporting information. The topics represented a broad array of issues that were unique to transportation professionals or addressed overarching concerns such as stakeholder interface. This approach acquainted these new users with the depth and breadth of TCAPP. Many were surprised by what they learned. Challenge – can you provide an issue for TCAPP to address?
